Alright…
So we left off last with me giving you a bunch of stuff not to do as a newbie. To be honest it probably helped even some experienced IM’ers too. Actually, I even helped myself because it gave me a good kick in the pants.
So now the part that you’ve been waiting for…
What “SHOULD” you do to make money online as a newbie?
Should Do #1
Figure out what you’re good at and if it’s something that you can do as a service for others. I know that a lot of newbie’s just want to get rid of their jobs no matter what.
In that case, it may be faster for you to figure out a skill that you have such as writing, or programming, or graphic design, or even telemarketing, or becoming a virtual assistant and doing a bunch of stuff.
Then you do those things as a freelance marketer.
I started out that way… and actually still do freelance for clients. I started out as a freelance ghostwriter, then went on to start doing some copywriting, and have basically just kept adding skills to it to where I do a ton of marketing tasks for people.
So that’s a good way to get started, and plus you’ll make some really great connections and learn a ton. There’s nothing like having to learn a new skill because a client wants it done. You realize just how fast you can learn something new. LOL
Should Do #2
Okay…I think if you’re just starting out then you should probably start out with affiliate marketing. Basically selling other people’s products for a commission.
I also believe, but this isn’t set in stone, that you should start out with Ebooks. The best place is to get started with Clickbank, and the reason is that the profit margin is just so much bigger. Plus, within Clickbank there are plenty of niches to go after that cover a wide spectrum.
Now of course there’s going to be some learning to do to get all of the steps down, and there a variety of ways to go about affiliate marketing, but essentially at first it’s a lot easier than trying to create your own product. Maybe not as profitable, but easier.
And it’s certainly more profitable, and actually easier than trying to make a living with Google Adsense.
Should Do #3
Have a place to call home online. You should certainly have your own website online so that you can have content. You should own your own domain name and have it hosted somewhere reliable.
Even if it’s your own name or something more generic like webreviews.com or something similar (I’m sure that one is taken). Having your own name is always a good idea…very smart people do that
Just kidding.
If you are worried about getting traffic then get my Free Happy Hour Report over there to the right and learn to get quick traffic to a brand spanking new site.
If you’re completely lost on Affiliate Marketing, then I can’t recommend Affiliatenaire from Jimmy D. Brown enough. This guy is a tremendous teacher, and teaches you in nice bite sized chunks that you can digest without getting overwhelmed.
Alright, hope that helps. Now, go get some work done, and then come back and chill out in the IM Tiki Bar when you get a chance.
Asta!

Hey Troy,
Great Post, Step Numer, I feel is so important. So many people feel that they are not good at anything - WRONG! We are all good a something or are passionate about something and that something can take us in the direction we want.
I certainly look forward to reading more from you.

Thanks Maggie.
You’re right, people seem to underestimate the skills and knowledge that they do have. One easy and fast way to realize that you truly do have knowledge and skills that people can use is to just talk to somebody who’s wanting to get their business online.
The stuff we as internet marketers know is so profound, but we don’t realize it because we’re usually in our own little worlds here, where everyone seems to already know this stuff. But, 99% of the people out there don’t have a clue.
Thanks again for the comment, and I love the stuff you’re doing as well over at http://www.askmaggiedavid.com.
